oke Mike Hancock, a 10th degree black belt, was the founder of the IOBK and Shinmei karate. He spent 47 of his 59 years training in the martial arts and was recognized all over the world as an expert. He had the honor or training with Fuse Kise, Yuichi Kuda, and Douglas Grose. In addition, he was a police officer for 39 years in Ohio and Florida. With a combination of traditional karate and modern police defensive tactics he created a “true life” system of combat. Real techniques that really work. This was his passion and is carried on by those he trained. With a Juris Doctor in Law and a PhD in Oriental Philosophy, his knowledge was unquestionable. He taught police officers from hundreds of agencies and prided himself in helping them learn to protect themselves. 

oke Hancock passed his knowledge to his wife, Amy Hancock. Upon his passing, she became the Soke of Shin-mei karate. She holds a 9th degree Black belt—the highest ranking woman in the world of this system. Amy has trained since 1974 and has been a police officer since 1982. She has been a police defensive tactics instructor since 1975. Soke Hancock is a Florida certified teacher, and a PhD in Oriental Philosophy. Winning many national competitions, she was honored to perform in Okinawa in 1983 and 1985 for the Governor.

hihan Douglas Kise Hancock began training as a child with his father and mother. He currently holds a 5th degree black belt and is a senior instructor with the IOBK. The consummate athlete, Doug loves many sports and believes that his karate training enhanced his performance there as well as in his academics. “No amount of training is ever enough”….words Doug remembers from his father, reminds us that karate is a lifelong endeavor.
